professional actors do not cost as much as most people think. Over the years of doing production, I've learned that there are a lot of actors that really want the opportunity to be in front of the camera. Yes, it is true, if there is a union show in the union actors to get full rate it is expensive. We use professional actors all the time because they simply want to refine their craft. The important thing is to develop a great story, so they trust us to make them look good.
Interview with – Mark Masterton – AF2 Films – Andrew Forster
This interview is with Mark Masterton a professional actor that we have worked with extensively on numerous projects. This is his perspective of what it’s like to be an actor in Vancouver and how he works with an organization like AF2 films.
1 Reason : It is easier to get the quality you need because they understand the Director.
REASON 1 : It is easier to get the quality you need because they understand the Director. When working with professionals, they are off-book (memorize lines) and take direction and understand the importance of getting it done. This makes it easier for the storyteller/director to get what he needs. We can work with amateurs/people and organizations when working with professional actors everything runs a lot smoother and usually, the quality is far better.
2 Reason: picking out the perfect candidate for the part
When working with professional actors AF2 films can pick the perfect candidate for the part with auditions and screen tests. Visually is important that the right person is speaking on camera to connect to the right audience/client base.
3 Reason : problem with employee fallout/the main star quitting
One of the big advantages of working with professional actors is there's no employee fallout. Sometimes we have a client that gives us a contract and we work with an employee; that employee quits or falls out with the organization they spent all this money and time with somebody who doesn't even like the business. When AF2 films works with professional actors there's never a problem with the fallout because the actor is contracted to do a job in the professionalism continues even after the project is finished.
4 Reason: easy to call back and control
5 Reason: gives branding to the organization for long-term marketing.
When marketing a business if you have the right actor, they can read the business with a certain look. A local example of this is the ANW nice guy, when this occurs there is longer contract will arrangements set up to protect the imagery of the actor's face for the brand. That particular actor cannot represent a product with similar conditions and services giving protection to the marketing team as they build a brand around his or her face. This is not a common occurrence unless dealing with celebrities.
